| MFO |
MFO works as an artist in visual media since 2001. MFO plays live video performances and vj shows, produces music videos, video installations and websites – always bound to quality, imagination and uniqueness. The center of MFOs interest are intensity and strong impressions, technology is subordinated.
MFO began in 2001 as VJ-identity of the Leipzig based video artist Marcel Weber. Starting with synthetic graphics over the years he fluently developed today’s form of his fragmentary, playful approach to work with pictures in-between video and graphic. For live presentations MFO uses selfwritten software, made to fit perfectly to his needs.
In the last years several cooperations with musicians and labels were founded to create captivating audio-visual worlds and to write out ideas in full. After some first success and ongoing work as a VJ in the clubs of his hometown, MFO accompanied the "Fakecore World Domination Tour" of the Phantomnoise label in 2003. Various small gigs, some in Switzerland and Poland, followed up. In 2005 MFO joined the "Contrast Summa" tour through Romania, which was supported by the Goethe Institute. By the end of 2005 MFO started a close collaboration with the Berlin based breakcore musician Mimaku Spldat. With the resulting a/v-performance "Shattered Society" both toured in 2005/06. Despite that MFO’s interest in visuals for different kinds of electronic music kept strong – so he played several VJ-shows for the labels Freude Am Tanzen and Moon Harbour Records in their home locations as well as regular gigs at Leipzig’s techno club Distillery.
There, during the pop/up festival 2006, MFO premiered the video material for what was later entitled Aviorama. Shaped as audio-visual poetry this performance illustrates the visual symphony of flickering lights, hurried movements and multi-layered complexity at modern airports. After comprehensive investigations, with official permissions to film and after extensive post-processing this a/v-performance was created in cooperation with the DJ and radio broadcaster Repeatbeat. Aviorama was played europe-wide on many festivals of media art, club culture or film festivals. Alongside MFO kept at VJ-ing. In 2008 he won the first price in the VJ contest of the International Videofestival Bochum.
Beside these electronic, music affin works a collaboration with the artist and lecturer Till Exit began in 2007. Thus MFO could participate in the production Ariane et Barbe-Bleue at the Opera national de Paris in Sep/Aug 2007 as artistic assistent of Till Exit. This collaboration was continued in May 2008 with the production "Nico Material" at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin.
More future projects of MFO are planned or produced at the moment. In cooperation with the illustrator Jan Ziegner a music video for Chris de Luca vs. Phon.o is in the making. For these guys MFO and Jan Ziegner already made a video show, that was played at the TodaysArt festival and in Leipzig.
Furthermore at the end of 2008 a brand new a/v-Performance will be premiered and afterwards internationally toured. "Kiez Express" will be the name and its musical side is realised by the musician HecQ from Berlin. The performance shall illustrate the character of a specific and very own kind of neighbourhood, which is called "Kiez" in some regions of Germany.
